The windmill project, based on 66 turbines, at Jhampir town of Thatta district will start generating 106.4 MW per day in January 2013.The Thatta air corridor has the generating capacity of 50,000MW electricity per day.Zorlu Energi Group of Turkey and Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) are engaged in this mega project of renewable energy which makes a part of Alternate Energy Corridor of Thatta district. Both the companies owned, installed and would operate 33 turbines each. FFC would contribute 50MW electricity and Zorlu Energi Group would produce 56.4 MW for the National Gird Supply System. Zorlu Energi has been selling 6MW per day to Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company (HESCO) since 2009.

Bhasha Dam Project

In another development towards implementation of the multi-purpose Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, three consortiums, comprising 20 renowned international and local firms, have submitted their proposals of consultancy services for construction design, construction supervision and contract administration of the project. Wapda received this response from reputed firms belonging to Europe, America and China in the wake of its notice for Expression of Interest (EoI) for procurement of consultancy services for Diamer Bhasha Dam Project, which is regarded as good omen for the project. The project is of immense importance for socio-economic development of the country. On completion, the project will help store 8.1 million acre feet of water for agricultural and generate 4,500MW electricity.

Pak-Swedish

A number of energy-generating companies from the public and private sector of Sweden are willing to offer ‘Greentech’ solutions to an energy-starved Pakistan.
Honorary Consul General of Sweden Bashir Ali Mohammad dubbed the Pak-Swedish potential joint ventures extremely helpful for Pakistan’s energy needs. He added that Sweden had the required expertise as well as finances to help Pakistan with the ongoing energy crisis. “The ball is in our court now, whether or not we avail this opportunity”, Mohammad said.

"Alternate energy only ray of hope for Pakistan"

Unprecedented energy crisis has dealt a fatal blow to the economy of Pakistan, shattering both agriculture and industry sector, and in this bleak scenario the option of alternate energy is the only hope to save Pakistan from a complete crumble, said speakers of the third International Conference on Computer & Emerging Technologies (ICCET 2013) held at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU).

Pak-Poland

Poland is interested in further expanding economic and trade relations with Pakistan in all fields including energy generation which would give a new boost to Pak-Poland bilateral relations.Dr Andrzej said that Poland has advantage of using coal as the primary raw material in production of its energy and three largest Polish coal mining firms extract around 100 million tonnes of coal annually. Therefore, Poland could provide assistance to Pakistan in power generation through coal of which the country has very huge reserves as Poland has great expertise in generating energy through coal, he maintained.
Dr Andrzej said that a Polish Oil & Gas Company exploited natural gas in District of Dadu in Sindh and gas production will be started in May 2013 which would help Pakistan to meet its energy needs.

German renewable energy company CAE

German renewable energy company CAE plans to invest more than €100 million (Rs12.9 billion) in setting up the first solar panel manufacturing facility in Pakistan, and the second of its kind in Asia.
